<hi style=afpcap>Despite the basic design stemming from the 1930's, the DC-3 and its military version the C-47 remained in service long after World War Two. During the '50s and '60s the C-47 was mainly used as a base hack for communications duties, although the war in South East Asia showed a need for the C-47 to perform a variety of specialist roles. These included performing gunship duties as the AC-47, and tactical electronic warfare and reconnaissance missions as the EC-47. Depicted is an EC-47P of the Air Force Communications Service (AFCS) used to check navigational aids at air bases in Vietnam, hence the camouflage scheme.</hi>
